Safety scores for every place in Greece

Crime and safety in Greece, place by place

Every regional unit, municipality and neighbourhood of Greece scored from 0 to 100 for overall, property and violent crime. 50 is the Greek average and higher is safer. 45 of the 52 regional units are measured from police-recorded offence rates; Attica's 7 are apportioned from its total, the levels below are modelled, and every page says which.

How to read a score

The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are, so two places in different regions can be compared directly.

  • 91+Exceptionally low crime
  • 80+Very low crime
  • 63+Below-average crime
  • 43+Average crime
  • 20+Above-average crime
  • 0+High crime

What the scores mean

  • Measured at the top45 of the 52 regional units are scored from police-recorded offence rates reported to Eurostat, 2021–2024; Attica's 7 are apportioned from its total.
  • Modelled belowMunicipalities share out their unit's rate by how built-up they are and by documented local reporting; each municipality's rate is shared out among its neighbourhoods the same way.
  • One scale everywhere50 is the Greek average and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly.

Questions about the scores

Where does SafetyMap's crime data come from?

From Eurostat's regional crime statistics (dataset crim_gen_reg): offences recorded by the Hellenic Police per 100,000 inhabitants, averaged over 2021–2024.

Is a neighbourhood score a count of crimes?

No. Eurostat publishes police figures only down to the regional unit, and Attica only as a whole, so municipality and neighbourhood scores are modelled from their unit's rate. They are estimates, and the page marks them as modelled.

What does a score of 50 mean?

50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole. Higher is safer: every doubling of the rate costs a fixed number of points, so scores compare directly across regions.
